Anzere, located in officially the sunniest canton in Switzerland, Valais, is a south facing high altitude ski resort with some of the best views of the Alps and an almost Mediterranean microclimate.
The resort was purpose-built in the 1960’s, and has grown in popularity with families and visitors set to avoid the usual daily hustle and bustle, traffic and queues of larger resorts.
Following the expansion of its skiing domain 2 years ago, and the installation of a fast 4-man chairlift, it can now boast nearly 80km of south facing beautifully groomed ski slopes, as well as fairly challenging off-piste. Apres ski on the slopes and in the village is abundant, which can be followed on by a night out in many of our local restaurants and bars!
Anzere is one of the best family resorts in Valais due to its unique car-free village center, which is a safe and secure play area for kids. There is a wide beginners ski slope and a marked sledge run with its own ‘’magic carpet’’ lift (slow moving belt). In the summer, this gives way to a huge playground for all ages, an artificial grass football field, swings, open-air chess board and much more. With several cafes and bars open year-round nearby, parents can simply sit back in the sun, relax and enjoy a drink or two while the kids play just a few metres away. The village center is also where you would come to see the ski displays, various competitions, music and wine festivals, as well as the New Year and the 1st of August celebrations, which include fireworks and open air concerts.
Anzere SPA & Wellness (also completed 2 years ago) is a magnificent oasis of relaxation. Indoor and outdoor warm pools, several saunas, hammam and outside jacuzzi with breathtaking views will leave you serene and content every time. Personal beauty treatments and massages should be booked well in advance of your stay, to avoid disappointment.
If you were to have a day-off from skiing, or you simply don’t ski at all, other exciting and innovative activities are at hand. Snowshoeing (well marked trails for all levels and equipment available for hire), cross-country skiing, walking, a long sledge run at Les Rousses. And there are plenty of activities in the summer, such as a visit to Lac de Tzeusier, hiking, organised walks along the Bisses (for the whole family), wine tasting at one of the local caves, SPA and massages, or just soaking up the sun on the chalet’s terrace. Anzere is a hidden gem!
